2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty vs. 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD

See How the Ford F-350 Fares in This Battle of the Heavy Duty Trucks

When you have tough jobs that require tough trucks, you only have a handful of pickups to even consider. Two of the top options are the Ford F-350 Super Duty and the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. Let's see how these two compare in a head-to-head battle.

Pricing

We compared base models of each heavy duty truck, and the Ford F-350 immediately presents itself as the significantly better value. It starts with a Manufacturer's Suggested Price of $34,420, while the Silverado 3500HD begins at $39,500 -- more than $5,000 more than the F-350! You can either choose to use those savings to upgrade your F-350 with even more features or just simply enjoy a lower monthly payment.

Performance

Let's be real here: if our customers from the Vernon, Amarillo, Lubbock, Wichita Falls, and Oklahoma City areas looking at one of these trucks, it's because they need as much power as they can get. The 6.2-liter V8 engine that's at the heart of the Ford F-350 dominates this battle, powering out 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque to best the 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque made by the 6.0-liter engine found in the Silverado.

When we turned our attention to hauling, the numbers fell even more in favor of the F-350. It boasts a maximum towing capacity of 21,000 pounds, clearly outperforming the Silverado's 14,300 maximum capacity.

Features

Both trucks include such standard features as air conditioning, AM/FM stereo, power steering, tilt steering wheel, tachometer and a folding rear seat, as well as such standard safety features as electronic stability control, and traction control. However, the base F-350 also offers intermittent wipers, auto-off headlights, standard tire pressure monitoring system, anti-lock brakes, and brake assist, which either aren't available or cost extra for the base Silverado.

Safety

The Ford F-350 offers more standard airbags than the Silverado 3500HD, including front side and front head curtain airbags, so it's the safer option in the event of an accident. The F-350 also includes a standard engine immobilizer, which isn't available for the Chevy.
